What is phyphox?
Phyphox (PHYsics PHOne eXperiments) is an app designed at the University of Aachen, Germany, by physicist Sebastian Staacks and his team (Staacks et al., 2019). Phyphox utilizes sensors in one's smartphone or tablet to collect various forms of data, export measurements for analysis, and even design custom experiments. Our Rationale for this phyphox Professional Development
As educators, we were frustrated with the unreliability and inevitable troubleshooting typically associated with the use of outdated detectors commonly utilized in physics experimentation in K-12 schools. The phyphox app allowed us to modernize our respective practices in this regard. By leveraging technology most students carry with them everyday or which can be freely acquired on school devices, phyphox serves as an asset to competency-development and scientific inquiry. We, therefore, wanted to share the benefits of this technology with colleagues in order to allow everyone to enhance the physics content and pedagogy in their respective settings.
